11 08 2022 SF BoS Urging the Continuation of Services After the Closure of the Tenderloin Center



San Francisco, CA USA- On November 8th, 2022, the San Francisco County Board of Supervisors, in a contentious vote (6-5) to pass a resolution asking that Mayor Breed extend the “Wellness Center” operation in the City’s Tenderloin district until other sites could be opened. On November 17th, the Mayor returned that resolution unsigned.

Back story-

The Tenderloin Center closed on December 4, 2022. The center, part of San Francisco’s Tenderloin Emergency Initiative, was planned as a temporary site to reduce overdose deaths and increase connections to services, as well as to collect data for future sites and services.

Referrals to services

SF Public Health referred guests of the Tenderloin Center to other providers to seek services such as safe drop-in centers; meals; substance use and harm reduction services; mental health services; medical care; and housing and benefits centers. Learn how to access these services.

DPH remains committed to furthering the overdose prevention and health services offered in the Tenderloin, and in other neighborhoods where there is high need.
