New Olympians:
Carson Foster (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mason Manta Rays) secured his first Olympic berth by winning the men’s 400m individual medley with a time of 4:07.64. After placing third in the event at the 2020 Trials, Foster’s victory marks a significant achievement in his swimming career.
Gretchen Walsh (Nashville, Tenn./University of Virginia) claimed her spot on the Olympic team in the 100m butterfly, breaking the world record on night one. Walsh finished with a time of 55.31.
Nic Fink (Morristown, N.J./Metro Atlantic Aquatic Club) became a two-time Olympian by winning the 100m breaststroke with a time of 59.08.
Record-Breaking Attendance:
USA Swimming set a new record with 17,697 fans attending the prelims, making it the most attended prelims session in history.
