Rachel Betterley, Mrs. Petite USA and former Miss Minnesota shares her journey in art healing, education, and pageantry. As a visual arts teacher and successful pageant competitor, she talks about her experiences from Miss America to Mrs. America, and now Mrs. Universal Petite, finding herself, and her story along the way.
Rachel is a 2024 Minnesota Teacher of the Year finalist who has dedicated her life to building the emotional wellness of youth across the United States through the healing benefits of art. A child sexual abuse survivor herself, she discovered firsthand how one subject of interest in school can make all the difference in a child’s life. Through her campaign, “Sketchbooks for Kids,” she provides sketchbook sets to youth facing trauma, abuse, domestic violence, mental health issues, and financial hardship across the world, reaching over 20 states and five countries.
When Rachel won the title of Miss Minnesota 2015, she embarked on a year-long anti-bullying awareness campaign, presenting to over 10,000 youth and honoring our many inspiring teachers throughout greater Minnesota. She has appeared Live on ABC, Good Morning America, local news networks, and numerous podcast shows. In her free time, you’ll find her painting fifty-foot-wide school murals, content-creating, and partnering with various philanthropic organizations.
