The initial siphoning of industrial fuel oil from the sunken tanker MTKR Terranova began on Tuesday, August 13.
The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said installation of the flange valve plate and hot tapping operation on MTKR Terranova was completed Wednesday.
The Terranova was carrying 1.4 million liters of industrial fuel when it sank off Bataan on July 25 amid bad weather.
The operation started nineteen days after its sinking. The plan is to drain an initial 300,000 liters of oil, make the tanker float, and bring it to shallow waters where the extraction of the remaining fuel will be done.
