Homelessness in the United States is on the rise, reaching levels we haven’t seen before. A recent report from The Wall Street Journal highlights how many people are affected, especially with the increase in illegal immigration as people cross the border, seek asylum, and are sent to major cities.
The numbers are shocking. In January 2024, over 550,000 people were reported as homeless, coinciding with the highest number of border crossings in U.S. history. This figure is about 10% higher than in January 2023, which also saw a record number of homeless individuals. In total, around 653,000 people were homeless in 2023, but experts believe that the numbers for 2024 could be even worse.
