Feeling Ready vs. Being Ready For Your Race

I’ve never felt 100% READY for a HALF MARATHON or FULL MARATHON – HAVE YOU? Sure I’ve been excited for a race, but not confident that I’m ready physically or mentally.

Before a half or full marathon:

  • I’ve been super nervous
  • I’ve wanted to get it over with
  • I’ve been excited about running with friends
  • I’ve been happy to travel to a race

But never 100% READY to CRUSH IT. Most of the time wish I had a few more weeks to train, trained harder, did something different in training… etc.

Until I realized that IT’S BETTER TO BE 10% UNDER-TRAINED THAN 1% OVER-TRAINED.

Great Half and Full Marathon Training Advice

Learning that hearing it from many different running coaches and seasoned runners made me see things differently leading up to race day.

Your number 1 priority is to get to the Start Line –> healthy (physically & mentally), well rested, fueled and hydrated.

If you opted out of a run because… you felt a potential injury, were sick, needed more time to recover, your responsibilities, weather, etc
That’s valid and pretty common. Remember, LIFE events are going to happen over the course of 12-18 weeks! Small things, BIG THINGS and random-couldn’t-have-planned-for-it-things will happen. It’s okay.

Don’t obsess over what you didn’t do. Focus on what you did.

3 Things To Remember before your next race

  1. TRUST YOUR TRAINING.
  2. DO YOUR BEST.
  3. YOU GOT THIS!
