Speaker Biography: Dr. Jahan Marcu has over 15 years of experience in cannabis research, policy, and operations. He has been a passionate advocate focused on consumer safety and the medical benefits of cannabis. He is also among a select group of professionals globally that has earned a PhD focused on the endocannabinoid system (with research on the structure and function of cannabinoid receptors, molecular pharmacology of the endocannabinoid system). Furthermore, his efforts include the development of international certification and training programs, co-authoring American Herbal Pharmacopeia’s Cannabis Quality Control and Therapeutic Monographs. And he is credited for assisting in the creation of the first nationally adopted standards for the cannabis and hemp industry as the laboratory committee chairman of the cannabis committee for the American Herbal Products Association (AHPA). His dedication to consumer safety is further evident in his work to co-develop a biotech application to predict drug-drug interactions between cannabis and commonly prescribed pharmaceutical drugs. Webinar Abstract: As another psychedelic renaissance begins to take flight, it seems that myths and misconceptions rise to meet it. As a molecular pharmacologist studying cannabinoids and psychedelics with training in psilocybin-assisted therapy, I believe it’s vital to dispel these misconceptions. Whether you are a consumer, an investor or simply interested in navigating the chaos that surrounds this burgeoning industry, below are a few mind munchies (aka food for thought) intended to provide some accessible guidance and insight. The topics discussed in this webinar will be regarding the pharmacological history of psychedelics, the varieties of sources of psychedelics, the mechanisms of action of psilocybin and LSD, publicly traded companies in this space, and misconceptions about some of the health outcomes attributed to psychedelics.
