Are you struggling to lose weight and really starting to get frustrated? The good news is, you are NOT alone. More good news is, I can shed some light on why you are facing these weight loss struggles and how to face these challenges to conquer your weight loss goals.
Why Am I Struggling to Lose Weight?
Although there is no simple answer to this question, there are a few common factors to consider when you’re experiencing difficulty losing weight. For some, (well, most actually) it is simply the lack of ambition and effort being put forth; however, for others, it truly is something more complex. Things such as genetics, body composition, and metabolism are all critical influences on our bodies’ ability to lose weight and maintain a healthy BMI (Body Mass Index).
Genetics
We are all so uniquely created which means there is never going to be a “one-size-fits-all” when it comes to weight loss solutions. The biggest factor we have to consider when choosing the best diet or method for weight loss is going to be our genetics. If you find yourself consistently being bound to an unforgiving weight loss plateau that ALWAYS results in endless yo-yo dieting, that’s how you know it’s time to re-evaluate your diet plan.
Some people are simply not genetically built to be a certain weight; therefore, achieving that goal weight will be much more difficult for them than it would be for someone genetically built to be that size. If you’re one of those people fighting against genetics my advice to you would be genetic testing for weight loss. This test will give you exact results based on your DNA which will help guide you towards the answers you have been looking for regarding your weight loss challenges.
If you find that your genetics make it difficult for you to lose belly fat due to your bodies natural desire to hold on to it, I would suggest a belly fat diet, which is basically a diet high in fiber and protein, low in saturated fats and definitely cut out alcohol completely as this is the most common reason for belly fat retention in women … (I know, I know sorry to be the bearer of bad news🙈)

Metabolism
It’s common knowledge that metabolism plays a pretty large role in body weight and someone’s ability to burn fat; but did you know that dieting can actually slow down your body’s metabolism? 🤯
I know, crazy right?! But it’s true when you eat fewer calories you are essentially telling your body to slow down its processes and try to conserve the body mass it already has, which may seem counterproductive, but ultimately it works, as less calories in = less excess calories stored. This too explains why dieting can be so frustrating at first because it takes your body some time to adjust to the new caloric intake.
Another fun fact about metabolism is that it accounts for over 80% of your calorie expenditure. What that means is that your body’s natural resting state, also known as Basal Metabolic Rate, is the reason for much of your energy expense. This includes your body’s natural processes such as digestion, cardiovascular functions, brain activity, and everything else that keeps your body functioning.
Your takeaway from this: Metabolism plays a huge role in your body’s natural functions but ultimately you can still lose weight even with a slow metabolism!
My advice for anyone struggling to lose weight due to a slower metabolism is to add a bit of weight training to your exercise routine as muscle mass is said to be the most successful way to naturally create a faster metabolism.
