The Career Optimism IndexTM: What the Research Tells Us About Our Changing World and the Implications for a Fast-Evolving Workplace

The workplace has been changed, perhaps forever, by a convergence of events exacerbated and accelerated by the global pandemic. University of Phoenix’s Career Institute https://www.phoenix.edu/career-institute.htmlconducted in the fall of 2020 its first annual Career Optimism Index —the benchmark—to better understand American Workers career perceptions, considering the changing world in an already fast-evolving workplace, driven by economic realities and workforce demographics.

A second annual study was completed last fall. The findings of both studies, 2021 and 2022, are both expected and, yet, surprising. We’ll discuss the Index findings, as well as additional research conducted by the University’s College of Doctoral Studies into specific insights from the Index, including meeting the needs of a multicultural workforce; career and education expectations of women of color; and the implications of a persisting gender wage gap.
