Teacher well-being and mental health are being talked about more and more as the topic of teacher burnout and retention issues continue to be top of mind. Even before the pandemic 93% of teachers experience overwhelming levels of stress.

While mental health and well-being are important for every person regardless of what field they work in, many studies have set out to prove the correlation between teachers who are more stressed out and student stress and overall achievement levels.

So if we aren’t supporting teachers emotional learning, overall well-being, and alleviating burnout then we are not supporting student social-emotional learning and academic achievement.

Additionally, if you look at the data of teacher retention you will see that not focusing on teacher well-being and overall job satisfaction costs schools in the United States roughly 7 billion dollars a year spent on the recruitment and training of new teachers.

Happy Teacher Revolution is a Baltimore-born, international movement with the mission to organize and conduct support groups for teachers in the field of mental health and wellness to increase teacher happiness, retention, and professional sustainability. This session will explore caregiver burnout, vicarious trauma, the importance of self-care in the field of education, and the necessity for teachers to feel empowered to claim happiness as their own as a ‘best practice’ to help students.
