Osteopathic medicine is a philosophy and practice of physician care in the United States, distinct in its whole-person approach and pioneering in its conceptualization of “wellness.” With a focus on preventive health care, osteopathic medicine helps patients develop attitudes and lifestyles that don’t just fight illness, but help prevent it, too.
In this lecture, Dr. Joshua Goodrum reviews the origins, philosophy and history of Osteopathic Medicine, how Osteopathy has evolved (devolved) over the years, and a vision for the future of health and wellness through the lens of his practice: Liminal Osteopathy.
Dr. Joshua Goodrum’s unique and diverse background includes years of experience in eastern and western medicine, personal growth and development, plant medicine, and meditation practice, With a deep devotion to healing, his passion is to inspire others to awaken their own inherent ability to heal themselves. Dr. Goodrum currently resides in Ashland, Oregon.
Originally from Western Pennsylvania, he completed both his undergraduate degree in Biology and Doctorate of Osteopathic Medicine there. In Upstate New York, he completed his training in a double residency in Family Medicine and Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine. At the same time, he completed training in Medical Acupuncture with the Helms Medical Institute. He then moved back to Pennsylvania and was the co-owner of a successful medical practice for 10 years, treating patients in the office, hospital, and nursing home.
Inspired to help those suffering from the opioid epidemic, he pursued a fellowship in Addiction Medicine and became the medical director of two addiction treatment facilities. Through this entire journey, he realized certain shortcomings of Western medicine and decided to pursue several other alternative thought and healing modalities, such as becoming a plant medicine facilitator, working directly with Wim Hof and becoming one of the first instructors in the US, working directly with Bob Proctor, becoming a Thinking Into Results facilitator and completing advanced trainings with Dr. Joe Dispenza.
