Thailand votes: Top 9 parties' pledges require US$92b yearly, says TDRI



Freebies, handouts and questionable economic promises – the platforms of parties contesting Thailand’s election on May 14 are littered with populist pledges, raising some concern about the fiscal discipline of any incoming government. The Thailand Development Research Institute said pledges from the top nine parties will require about US$92 billion per year. Kasem Prunratanamala, head of Thailand research at CGS-CIMB Securities, shared his thoughts on this issue.
