Humor, Health and Wellness from Virtual and In Person Conference Keynote Speaker Dr. Brad Nieder
Transcript:
Speaker 1 (00:06):
I thought Brad was phenomenal!
Brad Nieder, MD (00:09):
I would sometimes go to events in person, and I would wonder, “What was this event planner thinking?” I did a diabetes fundraiser; they had a pie-eating contest! I mean, that ain’t right!
Speaker 2 (00:20):
The show was absolutely amazing!
Brad Nieder, MD (00:23):
I think the most ill-conceived, though, was the chili cook-off for patients with irritable bowel. So, yes, they did raise awareness; I’ll give them that! Hi, folks, it’s The Healthy Humorist, Dr. Brad Nieder. What a time we have had lately. It has been unprecedented. The double-dipping was disgusting. I think those days are over. We used to love our hummus and our hepatitis, our chips and salmonella. That was delicious! We might as well have been frenching the entire party! And as I’ve listened to clients during this COVID pandemic, they have really wanted sound health and wellness advice from an actual doctor.
Brad Nieder, MD (01:06):
There has been so much misinformation and disinformation out there. They want to know how to stay healthy, how to stay mentally healthy. A woman came up to me after a speaking engagement a couple years ago. She had a horrible tremor from Parkinson’s disease. And she said, “You know, doctor, my tremor went away while I was laughing at your jokes.” With fear and anxiety and isolation and depression, clients want to laugh together. So that’s what I aim to provide, whether it’s as a virtual keynote speaker … Examining your hysterical friend’s rear end is a surefire way to get kicked out of Starbucks.
Brad Nieder, MD (01:43):
I think eventually we’ll have different breeds for different specialties, people. If you’re choking on something, you’ll need to see the retriever, right? Cummings alumni, thank you for being with us tonight! And if you have any kind of GI stomach issues, you will need a referral to the Shih Tzu, people. … or, as circumstances allow, as an in-person conference keynote speaker. My team made the championship game of Denver’s intramural co-ed healthcare softball league. We lost to the ophthalmologists, no less. Is that lame or what? And their catcher takes forever with the signs: “Better one? Better two? Better one? Better two?”
Speaker 3 (02:26):
A very long time, I will remember this. It’s definitely one of the best conference speakers I’ve experienced.
Brad Nieder, MD (02:32):
Workforce wellness and burnout, they were already issues before the pandemic, and they’ve just become heightened in all industries, but especially in the healthcare industry. Compassion fatigue, burnout … Physician burnout has become worse. So how will healthcare organizations care for their caregivers? How will they make workforce wellness and employee wellness a priority? Well, a dose of healthy humor is a good start. I’m Dr. Brad Nieder, The Healthy Humorist, and I can’t wait to talk to you about your next event.
