Sky News host Rita Panahi says Melbourne CBD is a “depressing place” at the moment as so many shops are closed, and businesses are struggling amid a loss in customer traffic.

“The place is depressing at the moment,” Ms Panahi said.

“You walk around the centre of the CBD and it’s not so much a ghost town but there’s so many shops that are closed, there’s so many businesses that are struggling, the ones that do have their doors open, there’s nobody there.

“It’s not a happy place.

“The state government needs to make sure the public servants, the people on its payroll, actually turn up to the office because they’ve been told to come in but they’re not coming in and that would make an enormous difference to those city traders.”
