THC Tipping Point – A Review of Cannabis Product Recalls, Dried Cannabis Equivalence, and more.

Many different cannabis products are available in Canada, although dried cannabis flower (DCF) remains the most popular type. All cannabis products have strict microbial, pesticide, and heavy metal testing requirements. Furthermore, all products have variability limits for THC (15-25% variability), except for DCF. Interestingly, most cannabis recalls published by Health Canada are due to incorrect cannabinoid content labelled on DCF. Since cannabis is now regulated, consumers have the right to know an accurate concentration of THC in their DCF. Moreover, recalls are expensive to the Licence Holder; therefore, clearer guidelines should be implemented to reduce the cost of unnecessary recalls.

Suggestions will be provided on how to implement variability limits and to reduce risk of harm for consumers. The Dried Cannabis Equivalency has been an overlooked issue in the industry, though many inconsistencies exist and will be elucidated in this presentation. Lastly, a brief summary on THC inflation will also be included in this presentation
