Avocado Cancer Risk For Men or Women?

In a recent abstract published in May 2023, titled “A Prospective Study on Avocado Consumption and Cancer Risk in United States Men and Women,” authored by Ericsson et al and featured in a reputable Harvard Journal, some intriguing findings have emerged. The study suggests that among men who consume more than half an avocado per week, there was a notable decrease in the incidence of lung, colon, bladder, and prostate cancers. However, for women, no reduction in overall cancer risk was observed. Interestingly, there was an association between avocado consumption and an increase in breast cancer risk, particularly among postmenopausal women. It’s essential to clarify that avocados aren’t deemed a direct cause of breast cancer; rather, there’s an observed association.

For now, it’s advisable to prioritize purchasing organic avocados. In our upcoming wellness podcast episode tomorrow, we will take a look into studies regarding prostate cancer reduction in men and explore factors that may influence cancer risk in males. Stay tuned for more insights on this critical topic.
