American basketball star Brittney Griner has given her first television interview since being released from a Russian prison.

Brittney was detained in February 2022 while travelling to Russia to play basketball overseas. Customs officials alleged they found vape cartridges in her luggage that contained cannabis oil, which is illegal in Russia.

The US Department of State declared Brittney “wrongfully detained” by the Russian government, and after 10 months in prison, the US negotiated her release as part of a prisoner swap.

Brittney has since said she will not play basketball overseas again, unless it is with the US national team.

The full sit-down interview will be shown on May 1st on ABC.
