Scientists have discovered a treatment for Covid-19 infections, and it appears to be an unusual one — marijuana.

Cannabis contains compounds that inhibit the Covid-19 virus’s entry into cells, thereby preventing infection.

Two acids found in hemp varieties of cannabis, cannabigerolic acid (CBGA) and cannabidiolic acid (CBDA), have been shown to bind to the spike protein of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes Covid-19.

This interaction may prevent the virus from infecting cells.

The spike protein is the same part of the virus that vaccines and antibody therapies against Covid-19 target.
