Cheese Boosts Cognitive Function in Seniors

For the study, 1,516 persons aged 65 and up from Tokyo, Japan, were studied for a length of time. Other characteristics such as their age, exercise routines, and food habits were also considered, in addition to cognitive abilities evaluations.

At the end of the study, it was discovered that persons who consumed feta or cheddar daily had greater memory than those who did not. The study also found that people who drank it daily were more likely to have a diversified food taste.

Tasty Ways to Integrate Cheese into Your Diet

Since a recent study has found a link between cheese consumption and cognitive function in the brain, here are a few methods to add it to your regular diet:

  • Melt it and pour it on top of pizzas or pasta:

The most traditional way to consume it is to melt it and pour it on top of pizzas or pasta. The flavors of the dish, combined with the saltiness of the cheese, give it a jolt that most people enjoy.

  • Use it as a salad dressing:

If you enjoy salads, top them with shredded feta, cheddar, or parmesan to add some extra flavor. Aside from taste, it will also provide certain critical nutrients needed to promote improved brain function.

  • Pair it with red wine:

Red wine and cheese complement each other extremely nicely. Both are claimed to increase overall cognitive performance when ingested in moderation.

As previously said, anything ingested in excess can be harmful to the health. As a result, it is better to consume it in moderation to reap the most advantages. People who are lactose intolerant or have other underlying health concerns that may be exacerbated by the consumption of milk products should avoid it.
