- Physiologically there is no difference between a negative and positive emotional state. No difference between nervous and excited, angry and accomplished, sad and at ease.
- What we’re really playing with are perceptual filters and labels about things. We are meaning generating beings.
- The right questions can lead to a shift in focus and perceptions.
Questions:
- What’s exciting about this instead? Kids crying? You’re angry? It’s exciting that you have the opportunity to enact a new response so they grow up to be less anxious. Having surgery? Freaked out? Remind yourself of all the things you’ll get to do once it’s done and healed for good.
- What aspect of this experience is like of cool? Again, kids crying? I have a child! I’m getting on a plane? ‘I’m 30,000 feet in the air in a tube that’s taking me from one side of the world to the next.’ This question sparks your lighter and more wondrous side.
- what part of this or a future experience must I keep focusing on in order to stay anxious? You’re revealing in order to begin healing. Every anxiety sufferer unconsciously enacts a step by step formula which eventually brings them into a state of ‘feeling and being anxiety.’
Don’t believe your perceptions around your anxious feeling, because most of the time I the perception is just there to keep you in a state connected to the addiction to suffering.
