Furious farmer who hates James O'Brien calls in to debate inheritance tax | LBC

James O’Brien faces what might be LBC’s angriest caller – farmer Charlie from Weymouth, who accuses James of being ‘the rudest person on the radio’, a ‘lefty, woke, liberal idiot’ and tells him he ‘hates’ him.

Discussing Labour’s proposed inheritance tax rise on farms, Charlie, who stands to inherit his father’s, starts the conversation by telling James he wants to ‘correct the gaps’ in his knowledge, but the discussion quickly escalates.

As they debate the minutiae of inheritance tax, inflation and farmland economics, Charlie becomes increasingly annoyed, asking James to ‘let someone who actually knows speak for once’, accusing him of talking over him and not listening.

They then clash over how farmers can generate sustainable revenue in 2024, with Charlie adamant he doesn’t want to sell any of his family’s farmland to solar or wind power buyers, who he says will ‘concrete over Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty’. He accuses James – who he labels a ‘townie’ living in ‘a liberal, elite world’ – of having no understanding of the countryside.

Charlie ends the call telling James he ‘knows nothing about farming’ and should stick to his ‘London, liberal, lefty wokeism’.
