The suicide death rate for Black youth has seen a steady increase from 2.55 per 100,000 in 2007 to 4.82 per 100,000 in 2017. Black children under 13 years of age are twice as likely to die by suicide. Actualizing mental wellness has never been more important as during the past decade. This session will uplift bold community mental health practitioners and activists committed to extinguishing sources of trauma in the Black community and will amplify the work of these advocates’ work to uplift them as models for replication throughout the country. This session will allow for real-time workshopping and sharing of best practices in promoting mental wellness in our community, especially those who are doubly marginalized by gender, sexuality, or interableness. We will conclude with actionable solutions to move the national dialogue on mental health forward in this moment of enormous challenge with the dueling pandemics of the COVID-19 pandemic and the persistence of American white supremacy.
