Healthy snack recipe for weight loss: Kale Chips

If you’ve read my Top 10 Superfoods blog post, than you’re already well aware of my love for kale chips. So I finally decided to include my super simple recipe for kale chips so you all can try them too and let me know what you think!

First of all let me just remind you of how healthy kale is for you and why, if you love this recipe, you should definitely incorporate it into your current snack rotation.

Health Benefits of kale:

  • Just one cup of Kale contains almost twice as much Vitamin A as you need for the day
  • Kale is easily one of the most nutrient-dense foods on the planet, meaning it has little calories but tons of nutrients
  • You can find antioxidants such as quercetin, flavonoids and beta-carotene in kale which help fight free radicals and reduce risk for cancer
  • Kale helps aid in fat digestion which leads to less fatty acid reabsorption into the bloodstream and in turn lowers cholesterol levels
  • The low calorie nature of kale makes it great for weight loss

How to Bake Kale Chips

Baked kale chips is one of my favorite recipes for kale chips because it’s really easy to do and pretty much everybody owns an oven. I also use my air fryer and make kale chips in the air fryer sometimes but not everyone has one of those so I used a recipe that I thought more people could benefit from!

Some things to remember when making baked kale chips is to never over do it on the oil, and be sure you are using extra virgin olive oil as the lighter the better. The olive oil is basically what gives the kale chips their tasty flavor so it needs to be light and delectable. I recommend using Pompeian Extra Virgin Olive Oil because I personally think it tastes great but any brand will work!

You also don’t want to make the mistake that I always do and over salt them! Just add a light coating to start and then you can add more later if you think they need more flavor.

Love salt. 😛

How to Make Kale Chips in an Air Fryer

If you are lucky enough to have an air fryer (LOVE my air fryer), you can easily tweak this recipe for that as well simply by using your air fryer instead of the oven.

Follow the same steps as listed in my recipe above but instead of baking them you can set your air fryer to about 325 degrees and let them cook for 10-12 minutes, depending on how many kale chips you can fit in your air fryer at one time.

My air fryer is on the smaller side so it takes me two to three batches in order to get the same amount as you would from a baking sheet in the oven, but most air fryers can fit about the same volume as a medium cookie sheet would.

That’s basically it for kale chips… super simple and super tasty! Let me know what you think about them in the comments below 😊
