What Is The Difference Between Marijuana And Hemp?
Hemp plants and marijuana plants are both a variety of cannabis plants. It is important to note that hemp and marijuana are not two different species. In fact, they are the same plant but with a different cannabinoid profile.
Marijuana is a cannabis plant that contains more than 0.3% of THC. The THC in marijuana is strong enough to provide a user with intoxicating and psychoactive effects, thereby making you ‘high.’ Marijuana is mainly associated with recreational use, and many states are now legalizing it. However, it remains federally illegal, and users may be required to obtain a medical card to use medical marijuana products.
On the other hand, growing conditions can be manipulated to germinate cannabis plants that contain less than 0.3% of THC. These kinds of plants are what we call hemp/ industrial hemp plants. The THC amount in hemp is not strong enough to give a user any psychoactive or intoxicating effects. It is mainly associated with medical use. Hemp is federally legal, and people can grow and buy its derivatives without the need for a medical license.
