Businesses and residents are dumping their #CBD products ahead of a new law that criminalizes possession of the #cannabis derivative, ranking it alongside heroin and cocaine.Products like #oils , #drinks and #gummies infused with CBD, or #cannabidiol , have been disappearing from store shelves in recent weeks. Authorities placed disposal boxes around the city for users to offload CBD-laced items. Hong Kong’s decision to single out CBD for an outright ban is unusual. However, #HongKong authorities have said that CBD is hard to isolate from #THC and warned that CBD products can contain trace amounts of the psychoactive compound. They have also said that CBD can naturally degrade into THC under normal storage conditions and can be used to produce THC. Hong Kong customs authorities seized 25,000 CBD items that they said contained THC and arrested nine people. The Hong Kong government proposed controlling CBD in #June of last year.
