How Indians stand little chance of asylum in US and UK?

President Joe Biden’s strict asylum restrictions may become a permanent feature of the U.S. immigration system, marking a significant shift from past practices. This proposal, reported by The New York Times, suggests that the temporary measures introduced in June to manage the influx of migrants could soon be entrenched as a fundamental part of the asylum process.

The restrictions, enacted through an executive order, have made it nearly impossible for many migrants to claim asylum when U.S. border officials are overwhelmed. The order kicks in when daily encounters at entry points surpass 2,500, a number that was already high when the order was signed. Exceptions exist for unaccompanied children and victims of human trafficking, and individuals can still seek asylum through scheduled appointments or other high-bar programs.
