How leaving the USA dramatically changed our lifestyle! (My review after traveling over a year)

8 surprising ways full-time family travel can elevate your everyday life.
Our life is far from ‘normal’—here’s why we said goodbye to the conventional path and chose full-time travel with four kids.

Is it possible to live in another country at a lower cost and be able to spend more of our time away from “the grind”. Maybe we could have more family time and less “all work and no play”.
We started asking questions, researching, brainstorming, and getting creative.
After much thought and deliberation, we ultimately decided that several main areas of our life could possibly be improved by travel in some way.
Here are 8 main ways a travel lifestyle could dramatically improve your life on a daily basis!
Let’s get into it.
When we set off our our grand adventure with the idea that these main areas could be improved, we weren’t actually sure it would be an improvement. We really couldn’t know if traveling full time would be something we liked or if our grandioos ideas were too idyllic or one-sized. But the only way we would really know is if we tried it ourselves.

Before we left, we wanted to know if these areas of our life could improve:
Environment and outdoor lifestyle
Homeschooling
Maintaining a home
Family time
Starting a business
Cost of Living
Minimalist lifestyle
Health and wellness (physically and mentally)

Here’s the breakdown:

Environment and Outdoor Lifestyle
Before we left, we found ourselves living indoors quite a bit. Whether it was the 100 degree temps in the summer or the winters hitting freezing temperatures we did not always stretch ourselves to get outside. When the kids were in school, they had just 30 mins of recess and I never felt like that was enough free play and exploration time. Plus we were busy with work schedules and so much of it was sitting in a chair staring at a computer screen.

Traveling full-time allows your family to constantly experience new environments and outdoor activities. You can trade urban settings for nature, encouraging more time spent outdoors, which promotes both physical activity and mental well-being. Fresh air, scenic landscapes, and diverse climates can invigorate the senses and foster a deeper appreciation for the natural world.
Homeschooling
Full-time travel offers hands-on learning opportunities. Your kids can learn about history at real historical sites, study marine biology at the beach, or explore geography by traveling across different countries. It’s an immersive educational experience that blends traditional homeschooling with real-world adventures, making learning more dynamic and memorable.
Maintaining a Home
Living on the road often means less time spent cleaning, organizing, and maintaining a large space. With fewer possessions and a simplified lifestyle, you can focus more on experiences than chores. Traveling full-time encourages a minimalist approach, where your home becomes more functional and less cluttered, freeing up time and mental energy.
Family Time
Full-time travel naturally encourages quality time together. Whether exploring new destinations or facing challenges on the road, you’re constantly creating shared experiences. This lifestyle helps strengthen family bonds and fosters deeper communication, as you learn to rely on one another more closely.
Starting a Business
Travel provides inspiration and opportunities for entrepreneurship. Whether through blogging, vlogging, or selling products related to travel, you have a unique perspective to share. The flexibility of traveling also lets you structure your work around your family’s needs and your exploration schedule, making it easier to achieve a work-life balance.
Cost of Living
While travel might seem expensive, full-time travelers often find ways to reduce their living expenses. By slow traveling or spending extended periods in more affordable countries, you can cut down on housing costs, utilities, and day-to-day expenses, allowing you to live a more fulfilling life at a fraction of the cost.
Minimalist Lifestyle
Living out of a suitcase or small RV forces you to prioritize what’s truly important. You learn to appreciate experiences over material possessions, and this minimalist mindset can lead to greater contentment. Letting go of excess allows you to focus on what brings joy and meaning to your life.
Health and Wellness (Physical and Mental)
I am a big believer in the “present moment” and “experiencing the now”. Too much of life is wrapped up in the mind’s past and future thinking.

Full-time travel offers opportunities for daily physical activities like hiking, swimming, or simply walking through new cities. Exposure to different cultures and ways of living can also promote mental well-being by broadening your perspectives, reducing stress, and increasing mindfulness. Travel forces you to live in the moment, which can be a great boost for mental health.
