Hurricane Ian: Biden warns storm-ravaged Florida will “take years” to rebuild | FULL

U.S. President Joe Biden expressed his support for those recovering from hurricane Ian in Ft. Myers, Fla. on Wednesday, following a tour of storm-ravaged areas by helicopter and an operational briefing from federal, local and state officials on current response and recovery efforts. Biden was joined on his trip to the state by First Lady Jill Biden.

Prior to Biden’s remarks, Florida governor Ron DeSantis also summarized the roughly 100,000 structures that have been destroyed and the 250 rescues that have taken place in the wake of hurricane Ian. Senator Marco Rubio, Senator Rick Scott and Congressman Byron Donalds were also in attendance.

“It’s going to take a lot, a lot of time. Not weeks or months, it’s going to take years for everything to get squared away in the state of Florida. To fully recover and rebuild,” Biden said in his remarks, as he stood in front of destroyed buildings.

Hurricane Ian brought waters that flooded homes and streets, with some areas reporting on Monday that floodwaters continue to rise even four days after the storm tore its way through the state. At least 103 people in the state have been reported dead, according to local officials and there has been more than $100 billion USD in damage.
