We decided to jump into the Ice Barrel (literally) to give you an idea of how it works for cold plunging. Is this a glorified barrel, or does it have features that make it convenient for boosting your mood and immune system?

Recovery is just as important as fitness and Ice Baths are a great way to help your body recover and heal from intense workouts. There are also a slew of benefits of cold therapy such as: decreased blood pressure, increased immune system, recovery, increase mental toughness, etc.! There are tons of amazing benefits of cold therapy that help improve overall health and wellness.

The Ice Barrel is made with rotomolded plastic here in the United States. The plastic is not scratch resistant but it is thick and durable. I accidentally laid it down on the concrete to try and empty the water out, it slipped and scuffed the side up pretty good so I wouldn’t recommend rolling this on concrete or any rough surface.

The Ice Barrel is 42” tall, 31” inches wide at its widest point around the middle, and 25” inches wide on top at the opening. So it’s plenty wide for people of most sizes to get in. Ice Barrel says it’s good for people up to 6’ 6” and 300 lbs so it should be good for most people, but I’ll talk about this a little bit more in the functionality section so make sure you stick around.

Compared to other products on the market like the Cold Plunge or tubs from brands like Polar Monkeys that require you to lie down to use them, the Ice Barrel is relatively compact because it’s an upright cold tub and will require less space to use. I like this design better anyway because you’re in more of an athletic position when you’re squatting down as opposed to lying down for your cold plunge.

When it’s empty, the Ice Barrel weighs in at 55 pounds. It holds 105 gallons of water and weighs at a whopping 750 pounds with 80 gallons of water inside. It’s fairly easy to move before you fill it up so you should be able to easily move it to a dedicated space. It is slightly awkward to move so 2 people can carry it OR there is a lip on the inside of the barrel that makes for a nice spot to grab when lifting it by yourself.

The Ice Barrel functions as expected. The most challenging part is getting in and out.
The step stool is really helpful and provides a fairly easy way to step up and get into the ice barrel. Once you’re in the ice barrel, it’s fairly easy to just squat down and get fully submerged in the water. We do wish that there was a step stool or some type of seat that could be used for the inside. That would make it easier for shorter users once they’re in the Ice Barrel to sit on, as well as help them get out.
