March 15, 2018, Washington DC: Margaret Chesney, PhD presents the first session to the attendees of the inaugural meeting of the new Integrative Health and Wellness Caucus.
What is Integrative Health? What is Wellness? Health Promotion for individuals and communities? While conventional models of health care often focus more on the diagnosis and treatment of disease, integrative health care empowers individual patients to address all aspects of their lives to promote wellness and enhance health outcomes. Personal and societal factors such as stress, nutrition, lifestyle, and even a patient’s relationship to their chronic pain and disease play as large a role on our ability to heal as medical interventions. This segment will highlight programs that emphasize the integration of modern medicine with integrative approaches and established healing practices to promote health, wellness and healing, and the access we have to these approaches in the community.
In the midst of the largest health crisis in recent history, the Integrative Health and Wellness Caucus will provide legislators and other policy and regulatory officials the opportunity to understand how shifting the focus in healthcare from reaction to prevention, health creation and promotion can result in considerable cost savings while improving health outcomes for Americans.
