Indian-American Patels launched a booming Mexican restaurant chain in New Brunswick

In the heart of New Jersey’s diverse food scene, four Indian-American friends have created something unexpected—a successful Mexican restaurant chain. Tacoria, a fast-casual eatery serving burritos and tacos, was started by Chuck Patel, Dip Patel, and brothers Sean and Haz Patel. What began as a small restaurant near Rutgers University in 2016 has quickly grown into one of New Jersey’s top Mexican chains, with their ninth location opening in Marlton on September 7.

The idea for Tacoria came from the founders’ love for tacos and travel. They spent a lot of time exploring food in Manhattan and Mexico and realized they could bring a fresh take on tacos to New Jersey. They wanted something unique for the local food scene and decided to open their first restaurant in New Brunswick, near the Rutgers campus where they had all studied.
