Hello!! My family celebrated Easter late this year so I have a quick recap of the festivities and this weekend’s RUN, EAT and RRR-LISTEN (did you think I was going to say repeat?).
Thanks to all the time I spend running and walking Diego (and maybe because I only have 1 friend)… I spend TONS of time listening to audiobooks and podcasts. And I love sharing my recommendations so you don’t waste your time with shows or books I’d say skip. So I’m going to start recapping that in my run reports too. Let’s go.
A few years ago my SIL introduced confetti eggs to my family as part of the Easter Egg Hunt. Before that we had the usual plastic eggs with candy and the occasional hard-boiled egg. The first year she brought them was extra funny because it was a complete surprise and then suddenly you hear a noise and get showered with confetti.
Now everyone in my family is prepared and looking for the confetti eggs more than the candy ones!
Even Diego tried to wrestle BIG confetti egg from me…
Okay, I realize it doesn’t look that big in the picture, but this is a Giant Confetti Egg. I scored this at the 99 Cent Store the night before. It was in a 2 pack of GIANT Confetti Eggs and something I’d never seen before. And it was truly 3x bigger than the other eggs but you know I have hands bigger than Shaq AND Diego is the size of a pony… so, objects in pic are larger than they appear.
Tricks to a Great Confetti Egg Hunt:
- Find 1 confetti egg and smash it in your hand OVER someone’s head – NOT against their head.
- Find 1 confetti egg and rip off the paper covering the hole to reveal the confetti inside. Then, sprinkle it on someone’s head and sing the Unicorn Glitter Song*.
- Find 2 confetti eggs and smash them together OVER someone’s head – again, NOT against their head.
And the main trick to a happy confetti egg hunt is to accept that there will be CONFETTI EVERYWHERE for a while. Even though we did it outside and tried to shake it off as much as possible – it still sticks with ya.
It was on the floor, in the toilet, on the bed, even on the dog!!
Okay, it was on the dog because I smashed one over his gorgeous furry head. But don’t worry – no dogs were harmed in the making of this blog post.
Actually, it was the opposite of harmful because Golden Retrievers are great family pets and Diego def thinks he’s part of the fam. He would’ve felt left out if I didn’t do it!!
I didn’t take any pictures of the food at our lil fiesta though… because I was so busy picking confetti out of it!
Kidding.
We ate before the hunt festivities, I was just busy helping my mom get things ready. It was my brothers and nieces so we took turns playing with the girls and getting the food ready.
But I do have a very Monican food photo for you…
Recently someone asked in Insta Stories if I still eat dirty grapes (see that post for the answer).
If I don’t wash my grapes you might guess that I also don’t wash any other fruits or veggies. And if that was your guess – you were right! Your prize is the satisfaction of guessing correctly in a 50/50 situation. Congrats.
Seriously though… I don’t usually wash romaine unless it looks dirty. And I feel like lately I haven’t gotten a pack of dirty romaine for a while. So I didn’t really notice this pack was dirty until I was chopping it and found the actual rock that formed the Grand Canyon in my lettuce.
Lucky for me (and the neighbors that wouldn’t heard my screams and been traumatized) I spotted this before tossing it in my salad. Thank God. (… realizing that’s a phrase I should’ve said earlier in a post about Easter!)
So, I’ll be washing my romaine for the next couple of weeks until I forget this happened.
In happier food news… I was craving a donut soooooooo much last week. I kept thinking about it at random times when it wasn’t convenient to get a donut so I’d tell myself I’d get one the next day. And I finally did. The end.
Speaking of the end… I just finished the book ‘It Ends With Us’ and want to chat about it. Have you read it?
I really am considering starting or joining a virtual book club because every time I finish a book I want to talk about it. And I had a lot of big feelings about this one. The review will be up later this week.
Today on the run I listened to The Crime Writers On podcast about the Varsity Blues documentary and the Today Explained podcast about Cicadas.
The Crime Writers On podcast reviews (mostly) true crime podcasts, documentaries, movies and series (sometimes they cover a drama series like the one they suggested that gave me such a bad night terror that I’m pretty sure my ex and I are both traumatized by years later).
Anyway. I like their show when they don’t talk about anything scary. If you like true crime podcasts – check it out.
When I got back home that episode was over so I decided to listen to something a little shorter while I stretched and went with Today Explained. They cover super interesting, random topics… like Cicadas. I was just curious because I don’t know anything about them.
Warning – Don’t listen while running because they have a few audio clips that sound like a huge bug is crawling from one side of you to the other. It wouldn’t be a lil too much while running outside. I’m glad I was stretching!
Warning Part 2 – Cicadas are coming in May!!! So if you live in Cicada-ville (aka somewhere that Cicadas live) – head’s up that they’ll be visiting very soon.
I live in Southern California and there aren’t Cicadas here but I’m always really curious about all things New England because it seems so different and far away. For example, I heard they have rain that gets so cold it turns to ice!!?! Wild.
Since listening to this 1 podcast about Cicadas I’m pretty much an expert, so LMK if you have any questions about them.
Today I learned… You can eat Cicadas and they gave some tips on how to gather them and cook them.
Seriously.
But I’m not going to judge because I almost ate a clump of dirt bigger than any cicada!!! Please let me know if you see one or eat one or go on a run with one.
