Leadership through crisis: A conversation with former Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot

After nearly 30 years in public service, Lori Lightfoot was elected mayor of Chicago in 2019, becoming the first Black woman and openly gay person to hold the office. A year later, the COVID pandemic hit, elevating the urgency of her mission to repair the disintegrating social safety net and steer investment to marginalized communities of color. Lightfoot will discuss the challenges of governing at a time of sharp political division and rising misinformation and share her approach to developing policies— including the COVID response—centered on equity and opportunity.
