Minimalist 10% Niacinamide Face Serum Product Review
About the brand
Minimalist skincare is an Indian brand that relies entirely on chemical skincare formulas. The brand faced a harsh backlash from beauty bloggers and the public due to their idea of copying “The Ordinary” brand formula and packaging. Still, we’ll give an honest review keeping that controversy aside. This review is based on the results we saw after 8 weeks of continuous application of Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% Serum. However, the brand is pretty transparent with the source and ingredient list, which is a good thing.

About the ingredients:
1. Aloe Vera Juice
Aloe vera juice is very beneficial for the skin. Helps soothe irritated and acne-prone skin. It also helps treat burns and wounds on skin or skin damaged by UV rays. Since the first ingredient is aloe vera juice, it tells us that this serum is aloe-based, so we suggest that people with aloe allergies do not try this particular serum.
2. Niacinamide
Niacinamide is one of the most widely used ingredients in skincare due to its extensive benefits. It is good for reducing swelling and redness on the face. Niacinamide also helps tighten pores and brighten skin. You must include a niacinamide serum in your skin care regimen to witness miraculous results on your skin.
3. Dimethylisosorbide
Dimethyl isosorbide is a solvent used to stabilize active ingredients. It is used in this serum to stabilize the niacinamide so that the product can work effectively on the skin. However, dimethyl isosorbide or DMI is derived from corn sugar and is 100% safe to use.
4. Propanediol
Propanediol serves several functions in a skincare product. It can be used as a solvent, moisturizer, or emollient. Studies show propanediol is good for the skin and can leave it clear, clean, and smooth. Some studies also suggest propanediol is better than Propylene Glycol, commonly used in skin care products.
5. Ethoxydiglycol
Ethoxydiglycol is a humectant and helps moisturize the skin. Helps prevent water loss from the skin, leaving the skin looking hydrated and fresh. The Cosmetic Ingredient Review (CIR) Expert Committee has concluded that ethoxydiglycol is safe to use.
6. Zinc PCA
Zinc PCA or pyrrolidone carboxylic acid is different from zinc. It is quite effective on the skin as it helps treat rashes and pimples. It also helps reduce skin redness. You should use PCA zinc products if you have acne, pimples, or irritated skin.
7. Phenoxyethanol
Phenoxyethanol is used as an antibacterial ingredient in cosmetic products. But, studies suggest that this chemical is not so good for your skin, especially if you are breastfeeding. Studies show that this chemical can react badly if absorbed through the skin. We do not suggest breastfeeding women use this serum.
8. Ethylhexylglycerin
Ethylhexylglycerin is used as a moisturizer and emollient to stabilize the other ingredients. This acts as an antibacterial ingredient and helps prevent the product from spoiling.
9. Hydroxyethylcellulose
It is a binding ingredient that helps to bind the ingredients of a product, which increases its performance. This is 100% safe to use and can be used by everyone.
10. Pullulan
Pullulan is a natural ingredient that helps define the texture of a product. It makes the product thick so that the product can moisturize the skin well.
11. Xanthan Gum
Xanthan gum is very hydrating for the skin. It has no side effects on the skin and can be used by everyone. It is 100% safe and is used in most cosmetic or skin care products.
12. Sclerotia Gum
Sclerotium Gum acts as a thickening agent and helps improve product texture. It has a gelatinous consistency that helps moisturize the skin. It also helps to make the skin smooth and supple.
13. Lecithin
Lecithin is a penetration enhancer that ultimately helps penetrate deeper into the product so we can see the best results.
How to use it?
- Wash your face with a mild, gentle cleanser or any other cleanser you use regularly.
- Take 3-4 drops of Niacinamide Zinc Minimalist Skin Care Serum and apply to the face.
- Gently massage the product with upward strokes.
- Apply your moisturizer and sunscreen.
- Don’t forget your sunscreen every day.
- Use it both in the morning and at night for the best results.
Packaging: We’re not so happy with the packaging because Minimalist copied the exact packaging idea from “The Ordinary” brand. We expect the brand to come up with creative packaging ideas to get the floor moving. However, speaking of the actual packaging, the Minimalist Zinc Niacinamide Serum comes in a frosted glass bottle. The quality of the dropper and the bottle is very good. The order comes in a black minimalist box, and inside it has paper decorations that make the packaging so amazing. We would rate the packaging 5/10 as copied; the 5 points are for the box packaging they provide to their customers, which is so delicious.

My Experience with Minimalist 10% Niacinamide Face Serum
So let me start with why I decided to buy a 10% Niacinamide serum in the first place. I have already done a lot of research on the benefits of niacinamide and its various compounds. You can refer to my article here for more details. Niacinamide is excellent for improving skin texture and clearing blemishes and acne marks. I recently had ‘mask-new due to double masking in the summer and in India. Although the acne cleared up quickly, it left behind dark spots, and I decided to try this niacinamide serum. I have been trying this serum for the past 3 weeks, and let me tell you, my skin was so much clearer and brighter a week after using this product. I used it in the morning after cleansing and applying Laneige Skin Refining Cream. It’s not a thick serum, and it absorbs pretty quickly. I take 4-5 drops in the palm of my hand using the dropper and then blend them all over my face. I wait about 10 minutes, then apply sunscreen. I repeated the same routine at night. Instead of sunscreen, I used a light moisturizer for the night.
Now let’s come to the composition and key ingredients. This product contains 10% niacinamide and 1% zinc (The Ordinary also has an exact similar product). Many research-based articles have mentioned that niacinamide 10% may have adverse effects in people with pre-existing allergies. You can try the 5% version. In general, niacinamide can be used twice daily and is well tolerated on the skin by most people. Another quick tip is never to use niacinamide and vitamin C together. Both are great for skin pigmentation and blemishes but should not be mixed or used one after the other. Zinc is also another great ingredient that works great for clearing up blemishes. If you are not comfortable with Niacinamide 10%, you can also try the 5% version of Minimalist. I plan to do this in the future as I noticed a gray area there. People have mentioned that 10% niacinamide can cause redness and irritation, although I haven’t personally experienced that.
This product does not contain essential oils, fragrances, parabens, sulfates, or silicones. Excellent!
