New York Rolls Out $200 Million Public-Private Fund To Promote Social Equity In MMJ Industry

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) announced as part of her State of the State plan that she’s creating a new $200 million public-private fund to help promote social equity in the marijuana industry. The plan also addresses hemp and broader harm reduction drug policies.

New York has a goal of issuing at least 50 percent of cannabis business licenses to social equity applicants, including people from communities disproportionately impacted by criminalization, distressed farmers, and women- and veteran-owned companies. Hochul says the newly announced fund will help New York achieve that goal.

Pennsylvania Republican Senate candidate Mehmet Oz’s campaign said marketing text messages appearing to be from him offering CBD products are not legitimate.

Connecticut’s hemp plan received federal approval.

CT DoAg launched the hemp program in May 2019 and since the inception more than 328 acres have been harvested. In 2021, there were 98 licenses issued for 397 licensed lots, including 470,600 square feet of registered indoor hemp growing space and 85 acres planted.

Any growers participating in Connecticut’s program with licenses that expired on December 31,2021, need to reapply under the new program to grow hemp in 2022. Applications are now being accepted and more information was available on Connecticut’s government website, however, it seems to have 404’d (errored out), so, to my fellow IT’s, get to it!

The Killeen, Texas police chief declined an invitation to attend an event about a proposed marijuana decriminalization measure.

“We want the community to know that the department does not support decriminalizing marijuana and we will continue to follow the statute, Texas Health and Safety Code 481.121 – Possession of Marijuana, which is the Texas State Law,” said Killeen spokesperson Ofelia Miramontez.
