Australian tennis player Nick Kyrgios is in doubt for the Australian Open after contracting COVID.

He confirmed the news after withdrawing from the Sydney Tennis Classic hours before his match against Italy’s Fabio Fognini.

Mr Kyrgios posted on social media he was “feeling healthy” and hoped to still make it into the Australian Open.

He could compete in the season-opening major if he recovers from the virus and is cleared to return by Monday.

Mr Kyrgios has not played competitive tennis since September.
