Part 1: Consider these 2 growing product trends in Health/Wellness Category – Spring 2022



Today I’m sharing 2 (two) of the Top 6 Product trends in Health/Wellness category:
1. Alternative Proteins: Animal Alternative/ Plant -Based/ Fermentation/Culture based Proteins: Products spanning from goat’s milk to “animal-free” cultured proteins, to plant-based pet food. At the natural products expo west (one of the largest industry events), this trend was everywhere and in every category. Sources from Bloomberg, to William Reed suggest plant-based proteins will be up to 11% of total proteins will be alternative by 2035. (For reference in the refrigerated aisle, plant-based make up 15% of the total milk sales). Growth might be slowing but it’s still growing. As a brand – you have options and ingredient companies new and old are getting innovative. Consider what is important in taste, texture, and ethos – and which alternative fits best with your brand. You have choice and consumers will too.
2. Sustainability: This product trend is in reflected in the consumer shift to alternative proteins and vegan beauty products, but equal interest in innovation on recyclable, reusable, “packaging-free” packaging, and clean-label ingredients with organic being the bare-minimum. It is also a growing question suppliers and consumers are asking in botanical based ingredients ingredients (e.g. where does it come from, how was it farmed, was it ethically sourced and grown etc.), and sustainability is a question all should be asking always.
