Saskatchewan Hemp Producer And MJ Tech Company Receive Federal Grant Funding



In #Canada, a #hemp producer and a #cannabis tech company in #Saskatchewan receive a combined 1.2 #million #dollars in federal funding as part of one of the province’s economic development plans. The #Business Scale-Up and Productivity Program awarded 11.5 million #Canadian dollars in #grants to 11 companies, including Blue Sky Hemp Ventures and Retail Innovation Labs. Blue Sky, which is headquartered in #Alberta but operates two production plants in Saskatchewan, was given over 749,000 dollars for a facility upgrade to increase hemp oil processing and #CBD oil refining. The company engages not only in CBD extraction, but provides other parts of the hemp #plant for food products and industrial uses. Regina-based Retail Innovation Labs, the parent company of Cova software, received more than 531,000 dollars from the program to expand the functionality and markets for its cannabis point-of-sale system, which is currently used in more than a thousand stores across Canada and 15 #US states. According to federal economic development minister Melanie Joly, who is also responsible for the regional development agency in charge of the funding program, Western #Economic Diversification Canada, the strategic investments are meant to support local communities and businesses in the wake of the #coronavirus #pandemic.
