Today’s JCS Inspired case contains the interview of a woman with postpartum depression who smothered her infant daughter.
On June 9, 2017, Amber Sagarnaga was home alone with her three children while her fiancé was at work. Sagarnaga suffered from depression and had recently lost the ability to make it to her therapy sessions. Although she had originally decided to put her daughter up for adoption when she was born, once she held the child, Sagarnaga changed her mind. Unfortunately, she was never able to fully form a bond with her daughter.
