Strategies in SOAR to Health and Wellness – Part 2

Full Title:
Strategies in SOAR to Health and Wellness: Training on Human Trafficking for Health Care Professionals

Description:
The Association of Asian Pacific Community Health Organizations (AAPCHO), in partnership with the Migrant Clinicians’ Network and the National Health Care for the Homeless Council, co-sponsored a training for health care professionals with the Administration for Children and Families (ACF) and the HHS Office on Women’s Health (OWH), facilitated by the Health Resources and Services Administration’s Bureau of Primary Health Care, focused on identifying and caring for victims of human trafficking within Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs).

In September 2013, the ACF, with support from the OWH, launched a pilot initiative to enhance the health care system’s response to human trafficking. The SOAR to Health and Wellness Training was designed to help health care providers Stop, Observe, Ask, and Respond to human trafficking. It is entitled, “SOAR to Health and Wellness: Training on Human Trafficking for Health Care Professionals.” The hope is that this training will be the first of a long series of trainings to identify victims of human trafficking within FQHCs.
