Taiwan’s economy contracted in the last three months of 2022 as slower global demand hit exports. It’s the most the country’s economy has shrunk since the global financial crisis. Vice President Lai Ching-te has officially taken over as chair of Taiwan’s ruling Democratic Progressive Party, pledging to work with other democracies to meet the challenge from Beijing. And lawmkers are calling for a special court to deal with national security issues after images purported to be confidential government documents were leaked online. Also:
