Visitors from across Thailand have flocked to a cannabis exhibition held in the northeastern province of Buriram. The event called Cannabis 360° held March 5-7, 2021, featured products infused with marijuana. The expo was part of the government’s latest effort to champion commercial use of the crop as a new engine for economic growth in the country and a source of income for Thai households. Marijuana has long been used in traditional Thai medicine and cooking, but possession, use and sale of the drug was criminalised in 1934. In 2018, the country became the first in Southeast Asia to legalise marijuana for medical use, and it further eased restrictions on the use of hemp in food and cosmetics. Recreational use of marijuana, however, is still prohibited in Thailand.
