The Top 10 Risk Factors for Developing Kidney Stones | The Cooking Doc®

What are the top causes of kidney stones? As a kidney doctor, this is a question I get a lot from patients. So this week I am going to share my thoughts on this painful subject.

Lots and lots of people will develop kidney stones at some point in their life. It is estimated that 20 percent of men and 10 percent of women will have a kidney stone by the time they reach the age of 70. Some topics I will be covering in this week’s video:
– Where in the United States are kidney stones more prevalant?
– The kinds of kidney stones from calcium oxalate, calcium phosphate, uric acid, struvite and cystine.
– Risk Factors for developing kidney stones.
– Will eating high calcium and high oxalate foods increase your risk of kidney stones?
– Does family history of stones increase your risk?

Find out my answers by watching the video and hear changes you can make to help keep those kidney stones at bay.
