The Indian Consulate in New York recently issued an important warning to the Indian community, urging them to be cautious when dealing with travel agents. It turns out that some of these agents have been overcharging for consular services and even submitting fake documents on behalf of their clients. Consul General Binaya Pradhan highlighted several cases where people were misled by agents who charged way more than they should have for services like Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) cards, visas, passports, and emergency certificates. For instance, some agents have been charging as much as $450 for an emergency certificate, which actually only costs $17.
