In recent months, the tech industry in the U.S. has faced significant challenges, leading to large layoffs that have particularly affected workers of Indian origin. Many of these workers are on H-1B visas, which allow them to work in the U.S. but come with strict regulations.
According to Layoffs.fyi, around 438 tech companies have laid off about 137,500 employees. This has created a tough job market, especially for H-1B visa holders who must find new jobs within a limited time. If they can’t secure a position quickly, they may be forced to leave the country. For Indian workers, the situation is even more concerning due to the incredibly long waits for green cards. In some cases, these waits can exceed 190 years after completing all necessary requirements, adding to their stress during this period of layoffs.
