USC [] World Mental Health Day [] Wednesday, 5th October 2022



On October 10, 2022 the world observes World Mental Health Day, with special focus on the global theme, Mental Health and Well-Being for all a Global Priority. The School of Social Sciences (SSS) at the University of the Southern Caribbean (USC), in recognition of this day, will host a live programme which will focus on raising awareness of mental health, and encourage a culture that supports mental health and well-being at the USC, the community and Trinidad & Tobago. The university anticipates that such a program will mobilize efforts in support of mental health wellness in the Caribbean region.

The feature presenter will be Dr. Hazel Othello, Director of Mental Health at the Ministry of Health. Specially invited guests who will share a brief message to the audience include Dr. Samuel Shafe, Medical Director, St. Ann’s Psychiatric Hospital, Ms. Ashvini Nath, Manager of the Mental Health Unit at the Ministry of Health, Dr. Yvonne Lewis, Coordinator/Lecturer for Masters in Education/Health Promotion at the University of the West Indies, and Dr. Stafford Pierre, Senior Medical Officer, St. Ann’s Psychiatric Hospital.
