My husband came home with this cabinet last year. We believe it was the base of a kitchen dresser. It needed a lot of love. The original feet were long gone with a massive chunk taken out of the base that needed repairing and the inside left a lot to be desired. I loved it from the minute I saw it!
I was originally planning on a timber top and painting the rest due to the damage but decided the timber was to beautiful to cover up. So instead we embraced the imperfections.
For those interested this was my process.
1. Clean
2. Fix the damage with Builders Bog (this is an industrial strength two part putty that drys like concrete and is idea for rebuilding significant damage).
2. Sanded all over with 80grit & then 120g. I focused on smoothing the boxes sections and removing majority of the stain.
3. Cleaned again
4. Painted the door & side inserts with Pureco Chalk Finish – Peppercorn using 100mm Palm Brush. I easily achieved one coat coverage!
5.. Sealed the whole piece with Hemp Finishing Oil using a wetsanding technique as shown.
6. Painted the new pine feet lightly with peppercorn & brushed over Pureco Sepia for an aged finish.
7. Installed the feet, I like to use a metal threaded Dowel (think double ended screw) & liquid nails for extra strength.
8. I added two new magnet catches to the doors to help hold them closed.
I staged and sold this piece in less then 12hrs
