Today’s Highlights:
A man was gunned down while sitting in a friend’s car in Carenage on Tuesday 17th October, 2023.
• The deceased was identified as 49-year-old Christian Eve aka Freddy.
• Around 7:15pm, Eve was sitting in the front seat in a friend’s silver Nissan Tiida which was parked in Big Yard, Carenage, when two masked men approached.
On May 03rd, 2019, Eve was one of three men injured during a police-involved shooting that also claimed the lives of three residents including a 14-year-old school in Big Yard, Carenage.
• The police were allegedly on Patrol in the area, when they were shot at while undercover.
• The officers returned fire killing 14-year-old Naomi Nelson, who was a student of Mucurapo West Secondary School; Keron Eve; and Kareem Baldwin Roberts and injured Christian Eve, Dequan Dyall, and Renaldo Sandy.
• Christian Eve was later jointly charged with another man, both of Big Yard in Carenage, with possession of a firearm and ammunition with intent to endanger life; shooting at PCs Kevon St John, Oesi Charles, and Ricardo Peltier with intent to cause grievous bodily harm; and possession of a firearm and ammunition without a firearm user’s license.
One man was shot and killed while another was injured during a shootout with police following a robbery in San Juan on Tuesday 17th October, 2023.
• Around 6:30pm, a 58-year-old man of Bon Air North was in his grey Nissan Wingroad vehicle, when two suspects approached and announced a robbery.
• The suspects reportedly dealt the man several blows about his body before they relieved him of his vehicle and fled the scene.
Bandits staged a robbery at Rituals Coffee shop on Maraval Road early on Wednesday 18th October, 2023.
One man was arrested after he was caught with a firearm, quantities of ammunition, drugs, and Trinidad and Tobago Regiment-issued items during an anti-crime exercise in San Juan on Wednesday 18th October, 2023.
• Between 5 am and 9 am, officers of the Inter-Agency Task Force assisted by the Air Support Unit, proceeded to the home of a 28-year-old suspect in Febeau Village.
• The officers then conducted a search on the premises and found one pistol loaded with a magazine containing 13 rounds of ammunition, a quantity of marijuana and a bullet-proof vest.
• Further checks of the area resulted in the discovery of 2 TTR caps, 1 TTR belt, 4 TTR patches, 1 US Defence badge and 4 Passports (1 US and 3 TT)
The parents of a young male whose body washed ashore at Clifton Hill beach in Point Fortin around 6:00am on Sunday 15th October, 2023 are calling for an investigation as they believe foul play was involved.
• The deceased was identified as 19-year-old Ancil Smart of Diamond Village in San Fernando.
• Around 4:00am, Smart reportedly went swimming, however, he disappeared underwater.
• About two hours later, Smart’s body washed ashore and beachgoers contacted the police.
• There were no marks of violence, and the police believe he may have drowned, but a post-mortem has been ordered to determine the cause of death.
Police are probing the death of a woman who reportedly consumed a poisonous substance following an argument at her Fyzabad home on Friday 13th October 2023.
• The deceased has been identified as 54-year-old Annie Siew, of Fyzabad.
