Who is Mary Burmeister?
Mary Mariko Iino was born in Seattle, Washington in 1918 into a Japanese family. She went to Japan in the 1940s to study the Japanese language and made a living teaching English there.
One of her students invited Mary to a lecture given by Master Jiro Murai. Listening to his words she was fascinated and very touched by his ‘physio-philosophy’.
Jiro Murai asked her, ‘How would you like to study with me to take a gift from Japan to America?’
She answered ‘yes’ spontaneously and became his student for the next 12 years (the 1st 5 of those years in Japan).
Mary’s father Uhashi also became a student of Jiro Murai.
Both Mary and Uhashi had ongoing correspondence with Master Murai about his research on the ability to harmonize and balance ourselves (in rhythm with the universe) physically, mentally, and spiritually.
After returning to the USA in 1954 to marry Gil Burmeister, Mary started teaching the Art of Jin Shin Jyutsu in 1965.
Jin Shin Jyutsu is an ancient (healing) Art of harmonizing life energy within the body.
Mary opened a Jin Shin Jyutsu office in Scottsdale, Arizona, now led by her son David Burmeister.
Today authorized instructors teach her textbooks and classes worldwide.
In her self-help books, she condenses the complexity of Jin Shin Jyutsu for a simple application of this Art.
Mary Burmeister passed in 2008.
