WWL News , Ian Auzenne ,interview with Tony Landry, on proposed ban on hemp derived THC

“A bill that would ban cannabis gummies, drinks, and other edibles containing hemp derived THC from being made or sold in Louisiana is awaiting final passage by the Louisiana House.

“These products are already being regulated, and that’s the safest place to be, under a regulated system,” Tony Landry, a member of the Veterans Action Council, said. “I’ve always been around veterans that have used cannabis products and these products to help with pain.
The Veterans Access Council, that’s our motto:
Access for all.”

Landry says he suffered a back injury while serving in the Navy in the late 1980s and early 1990s, an injury that required him to have surgery that has left him in constant pain.
Landry says he and other veterans with service injuries use THC edibles as a pain reliever and as a relaxer.
“They give you a very similar effect to medical cannabis,” Landry said. “Hemp-derived THC
products make me relax in the evening if I want to take something to help me sleep and get a better night’s rest.
“A lot of folks use the non-intoxicating products that have just the 0.3 percent (THC), which is not enough to intoxicate, but it’s still going to be criminalized by this bill,” Landry added.

Landry says Senate Bill 237 would not only ban Delta-9 products that have intoxicating properties, but also CBD products that veterans and other people use for pain relief. According to Landry, the bill’s sponsor, Senator Thomas Pressly (R-Shreveport), doesn’t know the benefits of THC. He’s now begging lawmakers to consider the scientific data showing that these products can help veterans like himself.
Bill supporters say current law is making it to easy for kids to get high on THC from convenient stores and grocery stores, adding people with legitimate health issues can get medical marijuana in Louisiana.”
